In the summer of 2006, My Story traveled to Paarl, South Africa to build a darkroom for the kids at Amstelhof Primary School, one of the most socially and economically disadvantaged schools on the Western Cape. Many of the kids we worked with had never taken a picture before. Amstelhof Primary now has a fully functioning darkroom with 4 enlargers and 40 cameras. This gallery documents our experience working at Amstelhof Primary.
Here\'s the front entrance to Amstelhof Primary School.
The next few photos are of Chester Williams, the shanty town that\'s just a block away from the Amstelhof Primary. Many of the school\'s students live in this shanty town.
Hope helping Rossi develop film in the new darkroom. Rossi is one of the three Amstelhof teachers we trained to run the darkroom.
